The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce is in SUPPORT of SB 933 authored by South Bay Legislator Benjamin Allen (26th Senate District). This bill establishes the California Teacher Corps program that would provide matching grants to local school districts to create or expand teacher residency programs in which the funds can be used to pay for master teacher stipends, stipends and tuition for residents, and costs of mentoring and induction.

TACC Position – SUPPORT
Having quality teachers in every classroom is necessary to develop students with the aptitude needed in the workplace; however, the state is facing a teacher shortage. TACC supports prudent investment in the education system, and programs that train teachers and incentivize the retention of good teachers are critical to student learning. This bill will soon be expanded to allow the Torrance Unified School District to take part in this program.
