Mandy Schulz, Patrick Schulz, Jason Kolb and Allison Kolb

Scholb Premium Ales has a remarkable story behind the name, as well as a remarkable story behind the business partnership. The wives of Scholb first met in 2008 when their children were taking an art class in Redondo Beach. It didn’t take long for them to become friends, and their husbands quickly followed suit. Together, the families have formed a strong team with a varied and complimentary skill set. The name Scholb is derived from the first three letters of two of the owners and “olb” is the last three letters of the other two owners. Patrick Schulz is the head brewer; Mandy Schulz oversees advertising and customer relations; Jason Kolb is the chief financial officer and operations manager and Allison Kolb is the chief executive officer.

As I entered Scholb, I was greeted by Allison who is extremely warm and welcoming. She provided a tour of the tasting room which has picnic tables and benches, a bar with stools and a lot of room for growth and expansion. “Guests are welcome to bring food to Scholb or have it delivered”, stated Allison.

Walking through Scholb, I noticed catchy signs and creative artwork which provide a fun type of atmosphere. I also enjoyed learning about Scholb’s motto which is Relax. Enjoy, Repeat. Allison said that the Torrance community has been great. “We all love the South Bay.” Scholb’s craft beer list includes Columbia Street Pale Ale, Not Lyin’ Rye, Dad’s IPA, Havanuther, Bat Ray Red, So Cal Blonde, Common Time Copper, Roll with it Brown, Dark Void, Contemplation Porter, Cherry Wood Smoked Brown and Endless Kisses.

Scholb Premium Ales is located at 2964 Columbia Street in Torrance. Operating hours are Thursday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Saturday from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce thanks Scholb for being a member and wishes Patrick, Mandy, Jason and Allison much success.
