Robert Virtue, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Virco Manufacturing Corporation will be recognized with the ‘Distinguished Citizen of the Year’ award at the State of the City luncheon on September 13th.  

Since 1953, the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce has annually selected the Distinguished Citizen of the Year whose achievements have been significant to the community and to the general welfare of the people of Torrance. Virtue’s incredible work to support the community is recognized, admired, and noteworthy. 

Robert Virtue was elected Chairman of the Board and CEO of Virco Manufacturing Corporation in January 1990 after the passing of his father, Julian Virtue. He served on the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors from 1995 to 1999 and received the J. Walker Owens Volunteerism Award in 1999 and the George H. Whittlesey Memorial Award in 2003.

Virco has been led by three generations of the Virtue family, beginning with Grandfather Julian Virtue who founded the business in 1950. As America’s leading supplier of classroom furniture and equipment, Virco products have proudly served the diverse education community for over 74 years.

Virco has 550,000 square feet of office, manufacturing and shipping facilities in Torrance, which processes orders for the western and midwestern states and the Pacific Rim, and 1.75 million square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space in Conway, Arkansas, which handles orders for the remainder of the country east of the Rocky Mountains plus the Caribbean.

Virtue will be honored during the State of the City luncheon which will be held at the Doubletree by Hilton Torrance South Bay, 21333 Hawthorne Blvd.
