strandAs I drove to Strand Brewery and Tap Room, I contemplated the angle in which I would write this article. Rich Marcello and Joel Elliott, owners, started Strand Brewing Company in 2009 with the intention of building a world-class brewery in Torrance and are to be congratulated on their success. Yet, at the same time, Strand Brewery and Tap Room has also become a destination, as customers receive outstanding customer service in their new 36,000 square foot location at 2201 Dominguez Street in Torrance.

As I entered Strand Brewery and Tap Room, my sense of smell immediately took over. As I was greeted by Rich Marcello, I asked, what do I smell? “You smell the boiling of malt and hops,” he exclaimed. It was a very pleasant smell and with that I was engaged in learning more about Strand.

Rich Marcello and Joel Elliott started Strand Brewery with a 1,000 square foot facility on Telo Street in Torrance. The definition of the word ‘strand’ is: the land bordering a body of water – shore, beach. With that, Rich and Joel talked about the positive atmosphere of the South Bay, inclusive of everyone and the fun times people have here, therefore the name Strand Brewery and Tap Room.

Strand Brewery and Tap Room has a very welcoming atmosphere. There are several picnic tables and benches as well as large drums and high stools. A large chalkboard, hung near the entrance, informs customers of upcoming activities. Families are welcome to bring their children and their friendly dogs on a leash. There are no TV’s, but there are card games on the table. “We have created an atmosphere where we want people to come and have a fun time with each other. We want Strand to be a gathering place”, stated Rich.

Strand Brewery and Tap Room is built on a foundation of cornerstones that are simple but not easy. The first is to brew premium handcrafted ales, and the second is to provide outstanding customer service. In addition to being served at the Brewery and Tap Room, Strand premium handcrafted ales can be purchased at BevMo, Von’s, Ralph’s Bristol Farms, Whole Foods and 310 Liquor.

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce thanks Strand Brewery and Tap Room for being a very active and supportive member.
