The Military Affairs Council (MAC) ‘Hidden Heroes’ program serves to recognize Active-Duty Airmen and Guardians who have contributed to the local community. Contributions include serving on numerous on- and off-duty volunteer activities, military councils, and organizations supporting several morale and welfare events.
The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Los Angeles Airforce Base has launched this program in 2023 and will be honoring military members quarterly.
This quarter, the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce will honor Technical Sergeant (TSgt) Robert D. Spear. TSgt Spear serves as a Noncommissioned Office in Charge of the Command and Control Operations for Space Base Delta 3 and Space Systems Command at Los Angeles Airforce Base, California, supporting 4,500 installation personnel.
He is responsible for overseeing console operations for 9 Controllers who advise the installation commander and key leaders on matters regarding Department of Defense Operational Reporting, execution of war orders, emergency action messages, and defense condition posturing.
TSgt Spear’s is being recognized for serving in numerous volunteer activities. He states “I have tried to do my part as a citizen in this community by giving my time to help those in need whenever I can. I was fortunate enough to take part in a federal fundraiser that opened the doors to networking with directors of amazing non-profits here in Los Angeles. I organized an event for members from Space Base Delta 3 to help sort through and package over 11,000 pounds of food with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to help ensure sustenance for families across LA County.”
“I also made a connection with the director of development for New Directors for Veterans and organized team to lay the foundation for an outdoor recreation area for the veterans that utilize their services, giving hope to those that have served before me.”
