There are two specific highlights in writing these Out and About articles. One highlight is that I
can visit new businesses and learn about what they do and how the chamber can foster
collaboration in their growth. The other highlight is that I can visit established businesses and
learn about what they do and learn about their keys to success. Today, I share my visit to
Redondo Van & Storage, a business that has stood as a testament to commitment, community,
and quality service since its establishment in 1919.

Redondo Van & Storage’s roots are deeply embedded in Redondo Beach, where it set up shop
at 325 Diamond Street in 1919 – a location that has served as the company’s headquarters for
an impressive 105 years. Over the years, ownership changes have been minimal, with the
Halvorsen family assuming control in 1989. Greg Halvorsen and his wife Laurie took over full
ownership and expanded the fleet to ten trucks and increased storage capacity with four local
warehouses.

Redondo Van & Storage’s range of services, including moving, storage, and packing, are
tailored to meet the evolving needs of the local community. One attribute of the company is that
they keep all moving teams as in-house employees, ensuring a high level of quality control.
“We have learned that people want peace of mind, a sense of security and knowledge that their
items are safely stored. Customers are encouraged to ask for assistance. We offer storage and
moving solutions that they may not even know about,” stated Ryan Halvorsen.
In 2018, Ryan joined the family business as Chief Operations Officer, bringing a wealth of cross-sector experiences to the table. “I am interested in business development, building a brand, and I
love working with people,” stated Halvorsen.

Halvorsen stated that the biggest issue facing their business today remains the recovery from
the pandemic. “There was so much uncertainty at that time. We continue to look for and find
good candidates who are skilled and will become good employees,” commented Halvorsen.
As Redondo Van & Storage looks forward to the future, its commitment to quality service,
community involvement, and family values remains unwavering. The company is poised to
continue its legacy as a local household brand, embracing the next chapter in its remarkable
100+ year history.

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce extends appreciation to Redondo Van & Storage for
being a member of the chamber since 1996. You are wished continued success. Redondo Van & Storage can be reached at 310.376.7919.
