As a third-grade student, I vividly recall my first school field trip to Weber’s Bakery in Santa Ana. As I stepped off the school bus, the aroma coming from the bakery filled the air. Bakers could be seen through large glass windows as our teacher led us inside the bakery. The memories of this field trip have continued to provide me with the curiosity of how things are created and made.

I recently had the opportunity to visit PEL Manufacturing, a business that was founded by the Pelezzare family in 1934. In 2017, Francessca Renderos took ownership of PEL Manufacturing after having worked there for 18 years. She began her career, right out of high school, as a receptionist. Motivated and self-started, Francessca became an upper-level manager and within twenty years, she became the owner of the Company.

Since its origin, PEL Manufacturing supplies spiral coils for bookbinding. “We manufacture our spiral coils in our Southern California location. Known to be innovative and manufacture to the highest standards of quality, PEL ensures that every spiral coil we produce meets the rigorous demands of the industry. Coils are created from aluminum, plastic and wire and come in a variety of colors”, stated Rafael.

Victoria, the mother of Rafael and Francessca, began working for PEL Manufacturing in 1985. When the original owners decided to move their manufacturing section to Torrance, they selected her to join them. Victoria commuted every day from Eagle Rock until she had the opportunity to purchase a house in Torrance. Still working at PEL Manufacturing, Victoria manages the production team and the plant floor.

As I toured the facility, I was made aware that all production machines are made and modified in-house. Adapting to technology and a changing environment, PEL Manufacturing creates beautiful planners that can be personalized. Printing and laser engraving are also available.

During my visit, I was able to meet Cassandra, daughter of Francessca. Cassandra, who was busy working, took time to provide me with a warm welcome. It was evident that she enjoyed her job very much.

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce thanks PEL Manufacturing for being a member and wishes them continued success in this family-owned business. PEL Manufacturing is located at 3200 Kashiwa Street, Torrance; 310.530.7145.
