Sonya Gallardo, owner, provided me with a warm welcome as I arrived at Highlow Gift Shop, an artful and design-conscious shop that shares a thoughtful curation of goods for all occasions. Walking throughout the shop, my eyes wandered to so many different types of items, seeing many for the first time. With 20 years of retail and small business experience, Gallardo opened Highlow over two years ago. “During the pandemic, I wrote a business plan for the shop and things began to happen,” she said.
Highlow has such a variety of items that include wedding gifts, new arrivals, books, desktop accessories, games, jewelry, home goods, pets and stationery. A favorite item of mine was a mug with the wording, Somebody in Torrance Loves Me. “One of our best sellers is permanent welded bracelets which are designed to be worn continuously without being removed. They are often used as a symbol of commitment or friendship,” explained Gallardo.
Highlow also has a pantry that has beautiful woven baskets, teas, snacks, condiments, and cookbooks. A Marmalade gift set from Marmalade Grove in Ojai caught my eye, but there were also several other items that were intriguing and would be nice for a gift.
