Small businesses in California with at least one employee who utilizes California’s Paid
Family Leave program benefits on or after June 1, 2022, can apply online for grants up
to $2,000 per employee on leave.
California’s Paid Family Leave program provides eight weeks of wage replacement
benefits to workers who take time off from work to bond with a child within one year of
birth or adoption or to care for a seriously ill child, spouse, parent, grandparent, sibling
or domestic partner. Paid Family Leave is a wage replacement benefit of the state’s
disability insurance program administered by the Employment Development
Department.
The grant can be used to offset the increased costs associated with employees on
leave. Such costs might include hiring new staff or training existing staff to cover the
duties of the employee on leave, recruiting and marketing for open positions, and other
reasonable related costs.
Businesses are eligible to apply for the grant if they are registered to do business in
California and have no more than 100 employees. Companies with 1-50 employees
may receive up to $2,000 per employee utilizing the leave. Businesses with more than
50 employees may receive grants of up to $1,000 per employee.
Businesses must also have an active status with the California Secretary of State and
an active California Employer Account Number (CEAN).
The grant is available until funds run out. Apply now at www.californiapfl.com and find
more information in the FAQ.
