Air Products Now Operates Seven Hydrogen Refueling Stations in California as the Company Continues to Move Forward with Plans to Build a Network of Stations Across the State
LEHIGH VALLEY, PA (February 5, 2025) – Air Products (NYSE:APD), the world’s largest supplier of hydrogen and a first-mover in clean hydrogen megaprojects to drive the energy transition, announced today it has signed an agreement to now operate an existing hydrogen refueling station located in Torrance, California.
“Air Products has a long history with this location and we are proud to support the local community. Working together with local governments and fueling partners we can continue to accelerate the energy transition and generate a cleaner future,” said Alison Hawkins, Air Products’ General Manager – Hydrogen for Mobility, Americas.”
Air Products took over operation of the station in late 2024 and recently reopened the station after completing renovations and other work at the site. The station, which opened in 2011, is located at 2051 W. 190th Street, in Torrance. It will continue to serve light-duty hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and also support the hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle manufacturers in the area.
“We are excited to welcome Air Products as the new operator of this critical hydrogen refueling station in Torrance. This station plays an essential role in supporting our growing community of hydrogen fuel cell vehicle drivers and reinforces Torrance’s commitment to advancing clean energy solutions,” said Torrance Mayor George K. Chen.
An innovator in hydrogen for transportation, Air Products’ California pipeline network has supplied hydrogen directly to the station since 2011. At the time it was the nation’s first pipeline-fed hydrogen fueling station. In addition to the Torrance station, Air Products operates five other retail light-duty hydrogen refueling stations in Southern California.
Last year, Air Products announced plans to build a network of commercial-scale, multi-modal hydrogen refueling stations stretching from Northern to Southern California. The new stations will deliver enhanced fueling technology capability, including significantly higher capacity and multiple fueling dispensers serving both heavy- and light-duty vehicles.
As the world’s largest supplier of hydrogen, Air Products has hands-on operating experience with over 250 hydrogen fueling station projects in 20 countries, and the company’s technologies are used in over 1.5 million fueling operations annually.
