Since 1953, the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce has selected the citizen of Torrance whose achievements have been significant to the community and to the general welfare of the people of the city. Kirk Rossberg of Torrance Bakery has been named the 2016 Distinguished Citizen of the Year.
On October 18, 1984, the Rossberg family opened the doors of Torrance Bakery to the public. At that time, they occupied a cozy 1,200 square feet and employed seven people. Since then, Kirk Rossberg has grown his family’s business to two locations totaling 14,000 square feet and now employs more than 75 South Bay residents.
Beyond his economic contributions as a leading business owner in old-town Torrance, Kirk has consistently and graciously supported myriad Torrance charitable organizations and fundraising events including the Torrance Historical Society, Providence Little Company of Mary’s ‘For Our Children’ event, Walk With Sally and many more.
Along the way, Kirk’s leadership has emerged through partnerships with El Camino Community College and the YMCA; nurturing the careers and life paths of thousands of Torrance area residents. Kirk truly makes life in Torrance a little sweeter.
The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors is honored to celebrate him and his contributions to our great city at this year’s State of the City event at the DoubleTree by Hilton – Torrance on Thurs., Sept. 29th.
