Sixth-grade students at Madrona Middle School have completed their five-week journey in the Jr. CEO program, an initiative by the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation that introduces young students to essential business concepts. Throughout the program, students developed ideas, created products, and gained insights into the real-world dynamics of entrepreneurship.

Dr. Sue Key, Principal of Madrona Middle School, highlighted the goals of the program, emphasizing the importance of students starting to learn and comprehend the nature of business. “From the Jr. CEO program, I’m hoping the students learn the big picture about business and how to create one—from an idea to a product, with the potential for them to create something of their own that they can sell to the community or to customers,” she shared. “It’s about the bigger picture of what it takes to run a business, to bring a product to market, and to appreciate the nuances and work ethic involved.”

With the final showcase just around the corner, students are preparing to present their business creations at the 2024 Sports-Themed Business Expo & Showcase on November 7th. Dr. Key expressed her enthusiasm for what lies ahead, saying, “I am really excited to see what the students come up with, their passion, and their ideas—the creativity behind it all. I’m looking forward to the 2024 Business Expo.”

The Jr. CEO program, through hands-on learning and real-world application, has equipped these students with essential skills that will benefit them throughout their educational journey and beyond.
