On the morning of May 18th, the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce proudly hosts the 5K for Freedom, an essential element of our city’s Armed Forces Day celebrations. This event, starting at 8:00 AM, promises to bring together our community in a shared expression of fitness, fun, and tribute to our military forces.
The 5K for Freedom is a vibrant part of a longstanding tradition. Now in its sixth year, and coinciding with the 62nd annual Armed Forces Day Parade, the event highlights our community’s enduring respect and support for the armed forces. Jac Folkert, Area Director of Marketing, Community Outreach & Development at UCLA Health notes, “The Torrance Armed Forces Day Celebration has a rich tradition, and the 5K event adds a wonderful opportunity for community members of all ages to come together in celebration.”
The impact of this event extends beyond the race course. It draws crowds, supports local businesses, and enhances the community spirit.
“Every year, it’s a joy to see community members running or walking with neighbors, co-workers, friends, and family. It’s not only good fun; it’s also great for our local economy,” Folkert adds.
Although Jac has not run in the 5K herself due to her responsibilities on race day, she is a passionate advocate for community participation.
“Whether you’re chasing a new course record or just want to enjoy a leisurely walk, we hope to see you there,” she encourages.
The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to the 5K for Freedom Run/Walk as it is an opportunity to engage in a healthy activity while showing appreciation for those who serve our nation. Join us to make this year’s event a memorable one!
