The South Bay is home to many extraordinary businesses, and behind those businesses are extraordinary individuals. This week I had the opportunity to visit Dr. Jin (Jinny) Hee Kwak, owner of ClearWave Orthodontics. I immediately felt welcomed entering the office, and it did not take me long to recognize that Dr. Jinny is one of the South Bay’s extraordinary individuals.
Opening ClearWave Orthodontics in 2022, Dr. Jinny and her team have welcomed 160 new patients. ClearWave provides leading edge orthodontic care with Invisalign, traditional braces, clear ceramic braces, and lingual braces. With a staff of two full time and two part time employees, Dr. Jinny is proud of what her staff achieves as a team. She also acknowledges the quality of health care providers in the South Bay community and the opportunity to partner with many of them.
Dr. Jinny is a board-certified orthodontist who has lived in England, France, Netherlands, Indonesia, Pakistan, Israel and South Korea. “Growing up, my father was part of the Korean United Nations, so we had the opportunity to live in several areas,” explained Dr. Jinny. The multicultural upbringing has taught her the significance of a great smile, a common language to positively express oneself and the first steppingstone to establishing relationships with others.
Dr. Jinny completed her orthodontic residency training at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She served as a UCLA professor for eight years, during which she was the Clinic Director for four years. She obtained her DDS degree from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. In addition to the clinical practice, Dr. Jinny has been involved extensively in research and received over $1 million funding from the National Institute of Health, the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation and the Colgate Palmolive Company. In 2017, one of her experiments traveled to the International Space Station, and as a positive result, is currently in clinical trials.
In addition to educational knowledge and hands on experience, I also saw firsthand the personal touch that is provided to patients at ClearWave Orthodontics. From an office decorated in the theme of Valentine’s Day to fresh pastries, coffee, and water available for patients, ClearWave Orthodontics provides a friendly atmosphere.
The Torrance Chamber thanks ClearWave Orthodontics for being a member and wishes continued success to Dr. Jinny Kwak and her team.
