Congratulations is extended to Andrea Sala, Executive Director of El Camino College Foundation. Andrea will be presented the J. Walker Owens Volunteerism Award at the upcoming Installation and Impact Awards event on Thursday, June 16th, 2022.
The J. Walker Owens Volunteerism Award, established in 1986, was named after one of the chamber’s former executives. The award is earned by someone whose volunteer work surpasses the norm of volunteerisms efforts.
Andrea has been an active Chamber member since 2011. She has served in multiple leaderships roles with the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, including Vice Chair of Education and Workforce 2020-2021, 2021-2022 and the Board of Directors 2011-2012, 2018-2019.
“Serving on the Executive Board is quite an honor for me. I love all the people that I have met, and I feel like I’m surrounded by professionals in our area who all just want to make Torrance and the South Bay a great place to work and live” Sala said. “I’ve been able to connect with some of our amazing local businesses in all different areas, like healthcare, computer science, engineering, and biotech, which I knew nothing about, and I learned so much from organizing that roundtable.”
Andrea has organized and implemented industry specific workforce round tables, the past two years, which provided chamber members the insight into jobs of the future, innovation and technology and employment forecasts. She attributes her love for volunteering to her upbringing and is thankful for having the opportunity to give her time. “I got my volunteerism from my mom because she always volunteered and went above and beyond in everything she did. She was very involved in the community.”
Her words of encouragement for chamber members to volunteer is, “Give as much as you can and you’ll get back so much more.”
