The West Basin Municipal Water District has launched a new program that seeks to generate ten percent of the district’s water supply from the ocean. West Basin has created the Water Reliability 2020 Program to limit dependence on imported water through expanding recycled water production, increasing conservation and developing a small amount of desalinated ocean water. The Water Reliability Program is projected to reduce the regional dependence on imported water from 66 percent to 33 percent by 2020. The Torrance Chamber supports the Water Reliability 2020 Program and its commitment to increase water reliability for our region.
