HOW IT WORKS

Leadership Torrance achieves its objectives by combining learning, doing and experiencing with a strong focus on leadership. Through a series of nine day long workshops, spread over a 6 month time period, Leadership Torrance/South Bay jumpstarts your understanding of the Torrance community and the South Bay business environment. The workshops feature an impressive array of speakers representing the power base of the South Bay, as well as access to many closed-door areas of our infrastructure. You will complete the program with a much deeper insight into the rich history of the South Bay and the current issues facing different sectors in the community.

This process provides you with ample opportunities to “fast-track” your networking circle in all areas of the community.

Leadership Torrance/South Bay provides you with access to leaders in:

* Torrance & South Bay Businesses

* City, County & State Government

* Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce

* South Bay community organizations

LEADERSHIP IN ACTION

Each Leadership Torrance class chooses a community project that allows you to put some of the leadership skills you are developing into practical action. It is a tangible way to “give back” and make a long lasting contribution to this great community. Leadership Torrance participants will organize and execute this project as a class and present the project at the Graduation Ceremony.

In addition, each graduating class of Leadership Torrance becomes the facilitators of the next year’s program providing you a significant opportunity to serve the community, improve an already outstanding program, and continue to pursue excellence in leadership.

LEADERSHIP TORRANCE 2010

Every year, the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce has the pleasure of offering “Leadership Torrance” (LT) as one of its most elite programs.  This is a very unique program that includes a maximum of 25 participants who take part in a 6 month program that incorporates tours, speakers and even a trip to the State Capitol in Sacramento.  The program runs from January to July, culminating with a delightful graduation ceremony.

Leadership Torrance has a 25 year history and attracts outstanding professionals and members of our community who are currently in leadership or seek to expand their network of top contracts.  LT continues to be one of the Chamber’s most successful programs aimed at encouraging leadership skills and shaping leadership into action.  Through a series of day-long workshops, the participants are exposed to sites and individuals in city government, county, education, non profit sectors and the business power base of the South Bay.  They have access to people and places that are not easily available to most.  It is a fascinating process by which the participants grow in relationships, contacts, knowledge and pride in their community which leads many to great professional advancements and even a great desire to serve.

The 2010 Leadership Torrance Class of 2010’s Executive Director is Maribel Denner, Director of Sales & Marketing – Torrance Marriott South Bay, Co-Director Leslie Cortez, Senior Administrative Analyst – City of Torrance Community Development and Director of Recruitment Troy Martin of Lurie, Zepeda, Schmalz & Hogan. Dan Thomas, Sr. Account Executive – TelePacific Communications is our LT2010 Liaison to the Torrance Chamber and is a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. We are looking forward to a great leadership and class next year.  For an application and additional information, please visit the “Programs & Events” page at www.TorranceChamber.com, or contact Maribel Denner at maribel.denner@marriott.com or call 310-543-6096.
