Young Professionals Group
A group of chamber members 40 years of age or younger who meet to network, learn about professional development, contribute to community services and build relationships within the Torrance Chamber through events designed with their demographic in mind.
How it all started…….
Fulfilling the missing link between the chamber and younger professionals, during the 2007/08 fiscal year, the TACC Board of Directors formed an informal focus group under the age of 40. These members expressed their expectations of their membership and what services the Chamber can offer to best meet their needs including having credibility in spite of their age, a desire for more informal social networking, finding balance between professional and personal life and available resources geared specifically for their professional challenges.
Moving forward, the board of directors appointed a capable, motivated and ambitious group to take on the leadership for the new TACC Young Professional Group (YPG). Within the first nine months, YPG developed committees to manage community service activities, communication, social networking and professional development.
A few of their events include the “Morning Buzz” which is a weekly networking meeting on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Friday of every month at the Healthy Bean and social networking events such as Happy Hour at various local restaurants. The communications committee manages social networking and keeping the group up-to-date with events. The Professional Development committee focuses on producing topics and activities for monthly meetings and the community service group discovered ways the Young Professionals can give back to the community.
Although this group also wants to make connections with members in the entire Chamber, this group provides them with a networking environment where they can get involved with the business community and connect on a professional level created for their niche. This is just one more group provided by the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce that caters and serves their future members. As the young professionals continue to build a strong network today, it will provide stronger business community for tomorrow.
