CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
 |
|
I want to thank you again for your membership in the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce. What makes the difference between a good Chamber and an outstanding Chamber is the engagement and involvement of its membership. In my opinion, we have members making some outstanding contributions.
For example, this past month, through the leadership of TACC board members, Michael Goguen and Dan Thomas started a new specialty group called “Tech Pros”. This group will host a monthly meeting at the |
Chamber designed for technical businesses and professionals to network and discuss issues common to their businesses. This is a fine example of members making the difference. Specialty groups like this lead and designed by members, bring a tremendous amount of benefit to your membership investment. |
The Chamber has some major events coming up including the Torrance Area Green Summit and Expo on March 24, Lunch with our Leaders featuring Los Angeles County Supervisor, Don Knabe on April 29, the State of the City Luncheon on May 11, and the State of Education luncheon on June 2. Everyone is invited to get attend these large events and get a chance to mingle with a wide variety of our membership.
Your membership and your involvement make a huge difference! I would encourage you again not only to “have” a membership but also to “use” your membership. It will make a difference for your business. I know it has in mine!
Let’s get back to business!
Dan Keeton
Chairman of the Board |

THE TORRANCE CHAMBER TASK FORCE PARTNERS WITH TORRANCE POLICE DEPARTMENT
In an effort to become more aware of business needs, the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce collaborated with the Torrance Police Department in a task force. Consisting of 23 Torrance businesses, at the Police Task Force’s first meeting Lt. Mark Athan discussed the many services offered to businesses by the Torrance Police Department including information about the Business Watch Program.
The Business Watch Program provides businesses with assistance and information about personal and business safety including presentations for employees, guest speakers for business association meetings, dealing with panhandlers, loiters who scare off customers, and security inspections.
Businesses need to register with the Police Department. Registered businesses will receive assistance immediately if a problem occurs after regular business hours. In addition, businesses who register with the Business Watch Program will receive invitations from the Police Department to attend seminars on topics about robbery, forgery, fraud and identity theft.
The Police Task Force is currently planning a breakfast in September to introduce chamber members to the benefits of joining Business Watch. |
